Develop and implement battery storage projects in Germany
ENACOM develops stationary battery energy storage projects (BESS) from site identification to construction readiness and transaction. Site securing, approval procedures, grid connection planning and approaching investors from a single source.
Why ENACOM as a partner for battery storage projects in Germany
Battery storage systems are the fastest growing asset class in the German energy market. ENACOM supports BESS projects with the same development practice that we have been using for years for wind power and PV projects – including direct contact with grid operators and investor access.

Who ENACOM’s battery storage development is suitable for
ENACOM develops BESS projects for landowners and municipalities that have or want to develop suitable sites for stationary energy storage, for investors and energy suppliers who want to realize battery storage as a stand-alone asset or in combination with wind or PV systems, as well as for project developers who need capacities for approval, grid connection or transaction support.
What ENACOM does in battery storage development
We accompany BESS projects through all development phases: GIS-supported site analysis with a focus on grid connection capacity and grid expansion requirements, approval procedures in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act or building law, coordination with grid operators and transmission system operators for grid connection points and connected load as well as contract management and transaction preparation for investors.

How ENACOM develops battery storage projects
From site identification to commissioning. With clear milestones and a contact person who coordinates all technical and official steps.
Location and network analysis
We analyze potential BESS sites in terms of grid connection capacity, available feed-in power, distance to the substation and the initial planning law situation. Only locations with realistic grid connection potential are pursued further.
Approval and grid connection
ENACOM supports the approval process and coordinates the grid connection process with the responsible grid operator and the transmission system operator in parallel. Both processes are closely coordinated to avoid time losses.
Readiness for construction and transaction
Once approval has been granted and the grid connection has been secured, we prepare the BESS project completely for construction and, if required, accompany the transaction to the investor or operator with complete technical and contractual documentation.
Frequently asked questions about battery storage development with ENACOM
Answers to the most important questions about site requirements, approval, grid connection and economic efficiency.
What is a BESS and what is it used for?
BESS stands for Battery Energy Storage System. BESS projects store surplus electricity from renewable energies and release it into the grid as required. They take over control tasks, stabilize the grid frequency and increase the security of supply – where conventional power plants are declining and renewable feed-in is increasing.
Which areas are suitable for stationary battery storage?
Proximity to a suitable feed-in point in the medium or high-voltage grid is particularly important. Conversion areas, industrial estates, areas next to substations or directly adjacent to wind and PV projects are particularly suitable. ENACOM checks the grid connection capacity and approval rights free of charge as a first step.
Does a battery storage system need a BImSchG permit?
From a certain system size, yes. For BESS projects with a storage capacity of 5 MW or more or with certain battery technologies, a formal approval procedure in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) is required. Smaller systems can often be realized via a simplified building permit procedure. ENACOM clarifies the approval procedure on a project-specific basis.
How economical are battery storage projects today?
The profitability depends on the revenue model: primary control power, secondary control power, arbitrage or direct marketing. With falling battery prices and growing demand for grid stabilization services, project returns are continuously improving. ENACOM develops BESS projects in a market-oriented manner and provides transparent advice on realistic revenue scenarios.
Can a battery storage system be combined with an existing wind or PV project?
Yes, and that often makes a lot of economic sense. Hybrid projects consisting of wind or PV plus battery storage can make better use of the existing grid connection, reduce curtailment losses and increase the overall return on the project. ENACOM develops hybrid projects as an integrated development from a single source.
What does a landowner get for leasing to a BESS project?
Lease terms for battery storage typically range between 5,000 and 20,000 euros per hectare per year, depending on the location, grid connection capacity and project size. The conditions are negotiated individually. ENACOM discloses all conditions transparently and draws up lease agreements in line with the market.
Develop battery storage project or offer location
Whether you are an owner looking to offer a grid-connected site for a battery storage system, an investor looking for a BESS project or a developer requiring capacity for approval or a transaction. ENACOM accompanies the entire development process.
